OVERLAY / RESURFACING

An overlay or resurface project can be an option rather than
replacement. This is especially
true in the case of parking lots. Resurfacing a parking lot can be very appealing
due to cost. It is much less expensive to resurface large areas such as parking lots
than to replace.
Only certain situations can a driveway be resurfaced.
This is because the overlay is 1-1/2 - 2 inches thick. The existing driveway must be
sunk at the garage, sidewalk, curb or any other adjoining surface otherwise the overlay
will create an uneven joint.
Overlays are performed by cleaning the driveway or parking
lot. Aurora Asphalt & Sealcoating then apply tack oil over the existing
surface. This helps the new asphalt adhere to the old asphalt. Our standard
mat is paved with 41A hot asphalt and is 1 1/2-2 inches thick after being compacted with a
double drum vibratory roller. Cleanup is essential in completing the job.
Life expectancy for an overlay or resurfaced parking
lot is 8-10 years with proper maintenance. Aurora Asphalt & Sealcoating
warranty is for 2 year. This excludes
frost cracks, petroleum damage, punctures, and normal wear.
